The Middle Years Workshop Series
Building Success with 4 to 12 Year Olds

This exciting new AFABC workshop series has customized Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) for adoptive families. Research has shown that this program reduces children’s behavioural problems, reduces parent-child stress and increases parent empathy and understanding. Parents will learn how to use child-directed play to gain reflective listening skills, learn how to identify and respond to their child’s feelings, learn how to set limits, give choices and how to increase their child’s self-esteem during weekly play sessions. The goal is for children to develop their internal locus of control, increase their problem solving skills, self-confidence, and competency; to feel more secure and increase trust in their parent and to feel loved.

AFABC is a non-profit organization that provides province-wide support services and information to people who are beginning to think about adoption, people who have decided to adopt, and those who have already had a child or children join their family. AFABC also plays a significant role in promoting awareness and recruiting families for the close to 1000 children waiting in foster care for an adoptive family.

AFABC was started around a kitchen table in 1977 by a small group of adoptive parents who needed to share ideas, information, and support.

Vision: A Family for Every Child

Mission: To promote and support adoption
